Soccer Opens Season with Scoreless Draw

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The University of Houston Soccer team opened its 2026 campaign with a scoreless draw against FGCU at Pickering Field at the FGCU Soccer Complex Wednesday evening.

The result marked the second-straight season with a scoreless bout in the season opener and is now the fourth time in the last five years the Cougars (0-0-1) opened the season with a tie.

After a stagnant first half offensively, Houston picked it up with 10 shots in the second half. Junior Jada Arthurs led the surge with three shots while sophomore Samira Minor, junior Skylar Miller, sophomore Amaris Bumba and fifth year Ella Morgan all attempted two shots in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Sierra McCluer held FGCU (0-0-1) at bay as she recorded three saves on the evening for her 16th career shutout.
