HOUSTON — Shell Energy Stadium isn’t freezing over, but attempts are being made to make it feel much less like Hell.
The Houston Dash and Houston Dynamo announced on Wednesday a series of “fan-focused” upgrades coming to its home field.
The newest round of improvements vow to “significantly enhance the event day experience through advanced technology, upgraded comfort and improved venue efficiency,” according to a release from the clubs.
What upgrades are coming to Shell Energy Stadium in 2026?
The enhancements, set to debut in February 2026, include:
Frictionless entry
Through Evolv Technology, a system already used by many top sports and entertainment venues nationwide – including the Houston Astros and Rockets – guests will have an option to enter the stadium seamlessly, reducing wait times.
A full-scale overhaul of the stadium’s sound system
An all-new public address and audio network will be installed for improved high-quality sound throughout the venue. The sound system upgrade will replace the venue’s original PA infrastructure, which made its debut during the stadiums opening season in 2012.
Expanded airflow in the seating bowl
An expansion of the overhead fan system across both the east and west upper concourses, and in the 200-level areas, is expected to dramatically improve airflow for guests for a, hopefully, more cool atmosphere.
How much will the renovations cost?
No figure has been given by the club publicly about the amount of investment going into this latest round of renovations and stadium improvements, made under the tenure of current Majority Owner Ted Segal.
The club did express through its media release that these upgrades “build on over $30M of improvements already made to Shell Energy Stadium since Segal’s acquisition of majority ownership in 2021.”
Will the renovations improve revenue?
Part of the Shell Energy Stadium improvements made under Segal include upgrades to premium areas like luxury suites, all-inclusive clubs and group hospitality spaces for events.
While the number of premium options has improved, giving the teams more options for higher-priced tickets, it is unclear how much revenue has spiked as no figures are publicly released.
Houston Dynamo FC is also taking requests for private rentals ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Shell Energy Stadium has added more tenants with Sam Houston State University Football playing its 2025 season there while its home stadium undergoes renovations of its own.
The UFL has announced its Houston Gamblers franchise (formerly the Roughnecks) will play at Shell Energy Stadium in 2026.
