HOUSTON – Houston Dynamo FC is extending its aid towards Central Texas Flood relief efforts by auctioning signed match-worn jerseys honoring the victims of the recent tragedy.
Major League Soccer and its three Texas clubs announced a joint $500,000 donation last week to aid relief and recovery efforts in Kerr County following torrential rainfall that led to catastrophic flash flooding on the Fourth of July, resulting in a death toll of at least 134 and leading to over a hundred missing.
The Houston Dynamo announced the additional initiative on Wednesday in its efforts to raise extra funds as search efforts continue over 200 miles west of its home ground.
Auction for signed match-worn jerseys
The first team wore a special jersey patch in remembrance of the victims, some with Houston ties, during its match on Wednesday against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and will don the patch again in its next home match against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
Several of the match-worn jerseys with the commemorative patch will be auctioned with the club pledging all proceeds to Central Texas Flood relief.
The auction is LIVE and will run through Wednesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. CT, with starting bid set at $200 per jersey with a 3.5% handling fee. Winners will be contacted on Friday, July 25.
Jerseys are not guaranteed to be game worn due to coaches decision and other factors. Jerseys will be washed before shipping.
In-Stadium 50/50 Raffle
All money raised through the in-stadium 50/50 Raffle on match nights in July has also been promised. The Dynamo’s remaining matches are the following:
- Saturday, July 19 vs. Philadelphia Union [MLS]
- Friday, July 25 vs. LA Galaxy [MLS]
- Tuesday, July 29 vs. Tigres UANL [Leagues Cup]
Commemorative merchandise
The club designed shirts that will be sold in the stadium Team Store and MLSStore.com beginning on Friday, July 18, with 100 percent of the proceeds also pledged.
