Michelle Alozie has been a standout performer for Nigeria in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Falcons have advanced to the semi-finals.
Nigeria opened the tournament with a commanding 3-0 win over Tunisia, where Alozie started and anchored the backline.
She continued her strong form in the second match, playing a key role in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Botswana, helping secure a clean sheet.
The Super Falcons closed the group stage undefeated with a 0-0 draw against Algeria, finishing with two wins and a draw. For their quarter-finals match Nigeria achieved a dominating 5-0 win against Zambia.
While Alozie is best known in the NWSL for her pace and attacking presence as a forward with the Houston Dash, she has been deployed primarily as a defender in this tournament.
Her adaptability has proven to be an asset for the Nigerian national team, where she has also occasionally played as a striker in past competitions. Her skill, discipline, and tactical awareness have made her a vital part of Nigeria’s defensive unit, especially in high stakes matches.
Alozie’s contributions haven’t gone unnoticed. In December 2023, she was named to the CAF Africa Women’s Best XI, solidifying her reputation as one of the continent’s top players.
As Nigeria heads into the knockout stage, they remain one of the favorites to win the title, alongside other top teams like Morocco and South Africa.
After the tournament, Alozie will return to club duty in the NWSL, where the Houston Dash resume their regular season in August with an away match against Bay FC.
With her confidence and form riding high, she’ll be one to watch both in the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations and back home in league play.
