HOUSTON – Houston’s NRG Stadium will host three matches as part of the 2024 Copa America tournament to be held in the U.S. next summer.

CONMEBOL, the governing body of soccer in South America, revealed the 14 stadiums that will serve as venues for the 16-team competition. Six Concacaf nations will participate including the Mexico men’s national team.

The Bayou City was awarded two group-stage matches and one quarterfinal. Mexico, the head of Group B, will open its campaign on Saturday, June 22 with a Group D match taking place on Monday, June 24. The remaining participants will be known when the group stage draw is held on Thursday.

The first quarterfinal has also been confirmed to take place in Houston on Thursday, July 4. The scheduled matchup pits the winner of Group A, potentially Argentina, against the second-placed team from Group B.

Houston was also a host during the 2016 Copa America, also known as Copa America Centenario, which was a special edition held in the United States to celebrate the tournament’s 100th anniversary.

The 2024 edition will be part of the normal four-year cycle to decide the champion of CONMEBOL. Ecuador was initially selected to host before the country backed out in 2022, opening the door for the U.S. to bid for the competition. The U.S. will also host the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
