Thomas Müller stepped out of the National Soccer Development Centre in Vancouver, Canada with a smile, putting on a rain jacket as the studs on his cleats brushed off the wet concrete ramp with each step until the German icon took his first jog onto the grass field at The University of British Columbia.
“Let’s get started!…Really nice rain today,” Müller said as he recorded a video of his first training for the club’s social media channels.
Then, it came time for his initiation.
The 35-year-old forward, who knew only a club career with FC Bayern Munich until this summer, was welcomed by his new teammates with pats on the back.
Then the preparations began.

With rain pouring down from the Vancouver sky, Whitecaps FC began a new era filled with higher expectations, additional motivation and worldwide attention of which the club has never experienced in its 40-year history.
One media outlet executed his report for the audience in Germany – some 5,000 miles, more or less, on the other side of the globe.
After training, Thomas Müller and Whitecaps FC head coach Jesper Sørensen took questions from media – with the popular one being the player’s availability.
“I’m ready to get some minutes,” Müller told reporters. “In the end, it’s the decision of the coach.”
All sings point to Müller’s debut coming Sunday against Houston Dynamo at BC Place.
A “sold-out” crowd awaits with renewed hope for the lone club in Cascadia missing an MLS Cup in its trophy case.
