Benvenuta Lisa!
Italian defender Lisa Boattin has completed a transfer to NWSL side Houston Dash from Juventus FC Women, the club confirmed on Monday. The 28-year-old left back arrives in the NWSL with a decorated résumé and the promise of immediate impact.
Boattin, a left-back brings with her 43 international caps for Italy, having played a key role in Le Azzurre’s run to the semifinals at the recent UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. A mainstay in Juventus’ back line since 2017, she made over 200 appearances for the Italian powerhouse and helped the club secure five straight Serie A titles during her tenure.
Two-Way Talent
Known for her tactical intelligence, sharp positioning, and offensive support, Boattin has long been one of Serie A’s most reliable and versatile defenders. While primarily deployed as a left back, she has contributed regularly in the final third, racking up assists and goals from open play and set pieces — including a rare Olimpico goal (scored directly from a corner kick) during the Coppa Italia. More recently Boattin had a good UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 with Italy, who made it to the semi-finals.
Push for Postseason
The Dash have endured an up-and-down 2025 season. After a sluggish start, the team sits near the bottom of the standings and urgently needs points to stay in the hunt for one of the final playoff spots. Houston has never clinched a spot in post-season. In their recent 2-2 draw against Bay FC, the Dash once again had to claw their way back after conceding first — a trend that has plagued them throughout the campaign.
While the team has shown moments of promise, particularly through players like Avery Patterson, Delanie Sheehan and Yazmeen Ryan, and others but the offense has struggled with organization and consistency. So many might question the arrival of Boattin, since the team needs a strong offensive addition.
Looking Ahead
With the NWSL playoff race tightening, Boattin’s debut could come at a pivotal time. The Dash have ten matches remaining to make up ground and secure a historic postseason berth. While the margin for error is slim, the addition of a world-class defender with European tournament experience may be just what the team needs to steady the ship.
Fans can expect to see Boattin in training with the squad later this week, with her first potential appearance coming in Houston’s upcoming home match against Racing Louisville.
