HOUSTON – The MexTour W brings the Mexico women’s national team against Jamaica on Tuesday, April 8 to Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. local time.
Under the direction of head coach Pedro López, Mexico will use these matches to strengthen its roster for the qualifying tournaments leading up to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympics. The team is led by captain and center back Rebeca Bernal (Washington Spirit) and features former Houston Dash player María Sánchez (San Diego Wave FC).
Forward Diana Ordóñez, a current member of the Dash, is also in the squad and is returning from injury.
The Jamaican team also features a Houston Dash connection with forward Kiki Van Zanten, who represents the local NWSL side and recently returned from injury.
Deneisha Blackwood, the Washington Spirit full-back, is recognized for her defensive solidity and offensive prowess. Jody Brown, who plays for the Campeonato Nacional Feminino club Benfica, is known for her speed and uneven attacking performance.
Jamaica, known as the Reggae Girlz, is coached by Hubert Busby Jr. and captained by Manchester City forward Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, the all-time leading scorer for her national team and club.
