HOUSTON – The Harris County – Houston Sports Authority has revealed the nominees for the 2025 Houston Sports Awards.

The Houston Sports Awards honors the top Houston athletes and personalities, past and present, both on and off the field.

Instead of an annual awards gala held at a prominent Downtown Houston venue, the 2025 Houston Sports Awards will be announced online.

When are the 2025 Houston Sports Awards?

The 2025 Houston Sports Awards will be announced between January 13-17, 2025 in 7 different categories:

  • Monday, January 13 – Female HS Athlete of the Year, Male HS Athlete of the Year, High School Coach of the Year.
  • Tuesday, January 14 – Moment of the Year
  • Wednesday, January 15 – Community Impact Award
  • Thursday, January 16 – Athlete of the Year
  • Friday, January 17 – Inspiration Award

All award winners will be announced on the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority social media channels and KRIV FOX 26.

Who has been nominated for the 2025 Houston Sports Awards?

Athlete of the Year, Moment of the Year, Community Impact & Inspiration Award, and High School nominees were chosen by independent selection committees.

The following are the nominees for the 2025 Houston Sports Awards:

Athlete of the Year Nominees

  • Yordan Álvarez – Houston Astros
  • Will Anderson – Houston Texans
  • Simone Biles – USA Gymnastics
  • Jamal Shead – Univ. of Houston Men’s Basketball
  • Adalberto Carrasquilla – Houston Dynamo
  • Alperen Şengün – Houston Rockets

Moment of the Year Nominees

  • Texans Beat Colts, Win AFC South in DeMeco Ryans’ First Year
  • Astros win 7th AL West Division Title
  • Macy Young sets RodeoHouston Arena Record in Breakaway Roping
  • Simone Biles Wins Olympic All-Around Gold
  • Andre Johnson inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame

Inspiration Award Nominees

  • Ryan Gareis, Kaie Lind, Allysha Chapman – Houston Dash Moms
  • Greg Jones – George Ranch HS Disabilities Track Coach
  • Damon West – Inspirational Speaker

Community Impact Award Nominees

  • A.J. Edenzon – Special Olympics Houston Director
  • The Knockout Factory
  • Frank Ross – Texans Special Teams Coach

Female High School Athlete of the Year Nominees

  • Justice Carlton – Seven Lakes HS
  • Lillian Harden – Bridgeland HS
  • Riley Rayome – The Woodlands HS
  • Ella McDowell – Foster HS
  • Kassie O’Brien – Cinco Ranch HS

Male High School Athlete of the Year Nominees

  • Cade Arrambide – Tomball HS
  • Chris McDermott – Booker T. Washington HS
  • Aidan Morrison – Seven Lakes HS
  • Jelani Watkins – Atascocita HS
  • Johan Williams – Galveston Ball HS

High School Coach of the Year Nominees

  • Elton Ervin – Atascocita HS Track and Field
  • Chris Jordan-Foster – Hitchcock HS Basketball
  • Doug Rush – Tomball HS Baseball
  • Christa Williams-Yates – Kingwood HS Softball
  • Wille Gaston – North Shore HS Football

Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Houston Texans Co-Founder and Senior Chair Janice McNair

When is voting for the 2025 Houston Sports Awards taking place?

Voting for each award will be open to Houston-area media members until December 12.

Fans will be allowed to vote in each of the high school categories. The winner of each fan vote will receive one additional vote in the general tally.
